Benny Goodman, also known as, the “King of Swing” performed at the iconic hotel in the late 1930s. His stay was not without excitement, once Benny found out the distance from Calgary to Banff, he deemed it was too far of a drive for him. He decided he would only come to the hotel if he could land his plane close to town. His request sparked major excitement in the community and led to the creation of the Banff airstrip, a significant event in the town’s history.
